Mr. Brown holds a B.A., in Government from Ohio University; an M.A. in Political Science with a specialization in Public Administration from Ohio University; and a J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law. He is a licensed Attorney and a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania. He has also completed the Venture Capital Institute (National Association of Small Business Investment Companies/National Venture Capital Association) and participated in the Minority Business Executive Program at Dartmouth College.
His experience includes serving as an Investment Consultant to several Investment/Financial Services Firms; a Financial Analyst in the Investment Division (Office of Small Business Investment Companies - SBIC) at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Washington, DC; and as the Assistant Administrator of the Offices of Technology (Small Business Innovation Research-SBIR/Small Business Technology Transfer-STTR Programs)and Business Development at SBA headquarters, Washington, DC. He is the Principal of Edsel M. Brown Jr. (Financial Consultant)and the franchise owner of a Liberty Tax Service franchise in Annapolis, Md. (Festival at Riva Shopping Center).
He has been involved in the financial services industry since 1985. He is a registered representative (Series 7 & 63) with the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) as well as a licensed insurance broker. He served as host of the Storer Cable television program, "The Financial Journal."
He has always been a key member of his coummunity and has belonged to several Chambers of Commerce including Calvert County Chamber (MD), St. Mary's County Chamber (MD), Annapolis/Anne Arundel County Chamber (MD), Frederick County Chamber (MD), DC Chamber, the Annapolis Business Association, and the Black Chamber of Commerce of Anne Arundel County. He is also a member of the Calvert County (MD) Economic Development Commission and the Calvert County Minority Business Alliance.
He is a "business friend" of St Johns College and a member of the Blue and Gold club of the U.S. Naval Academy.
He is an active member of the Ohio University Alumni Association, University of Toledo Alumni Association, NAACP, and a proud life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
